January 2010

So since I'm pretty backlogged on postings, I thought I'd just add a few random pics I took this month- trying to capture all the special moments, as Olivia is growing way too fast!  And she loves making crazy faces!  Look at all those teeth- taking after her sister.  Sofia has yet to lose one tooth!  Introduced Olivia to tofu this month and she loves it- I had to start getting creative with the finger foods since we battle for me to feed her with the spoon.  I love capturing sister moments.  They love bathing together and I'm predicting that Olivia will also love the water!

Olivia's 9mos appt- I can't believe that our baby will be a year old in just 3 mos! She did great! She is definitely thriving. Weighing in at 17lbs 8oz and 28" she ranks 25th percentile in weight and 70th in height- whatever that means! :)

We started music together this month.  Sofia started at 6mos and Im convinced this is why she enjoys it so much now.  We hope Olivia has the same experience.  It was great watching them both interact with eachother and the other kids.

Sofia and I spent some mommy time and joined our friends for the musical circus at the Americana in Glendale- a children's concert where kids have the opportunity to see, touch and feel various instruments followed by a certain themed performance. This time it was Russian folkdancers .

We have a yard again- Yippee!  Both girls enjoy being outdoors and so we took advantage of the fair weather this month.  One of the few days it didn't rain!

January 1, 2010- Happy New Year!

  1. We're continuing our New Year's Eve/Day tradition with the Munoz family (Sofia's Godparents). They live just a block from the parade route, so it's a lot of fun. The evening is pretty low key and we spend New Years Day watching the parade, eating and just relaxing all day. Didn't get to enjoy much of the parade this year, but will make up for it next year, for sure!

Ice Skating and It's Raining Pennies! - Sun. Jan 24

We joined our playgroup friends this afternoon at the Pasadena Ice Rink and enjoyed watching Sofia cling for dear life to the side rails.  It'd been YEARS since I'd been on skates, but amazingly managed to keep myself on my feet the entire time.  Sofia, on the other hand, well... let's just say she was a good sport.  The best part was at the end when she commented. "mom, I did pretty good, huh?"  And although I suggested she may want to take some lessons, she insisted against it "but, I know how to already".  UH-huh....  we'll see how the second ice skating trip goes.

OH- and I can't fail to mention the coins that rained in my car on the way home.  Yup!  My car hit the jackpot.  As we're pulling into the driveway, I notice an unusual silence; I turn around and she has a blank look on her face.  "Sofia, what's wrong?"  "um... you promise you won't give me a time-out?" "no, what's wrong?"  "um....I swallowed a penny"  "A WHAT??!!- how'd that happen?"  "well, um..... it just accidentally fell into my mouth"
I will spare you the details, but let's put it this way, we've been home-bound for a week now.  For you parents out there, it's NEVER too late to remind your kids- school-aged, even, to keep things out of their mouths!!  Ironically, her very good friend swallowed a quarter a few days later.  The strange part was that they hadn't even spoke to each other after Sofia's incident.  The quarter was lodged in her esophagus and she ended up in the ER having to have it surgically removed.  We haven't had that happen... yet :(  Hoping to find it this week or else??

Huntington Beach- Sat Jan 23, 2010

So I hope this doesn't get too confusing, but I'm going to attempt to "back-post" until I get caught up with my postings. I really want to include at least the latter part of 2009, while my memory still allows.  My titles will hopefully clarify any confusion with the dates.

So, last Saturday we spent the afternoon with Tios Trujillo in Huntington Beach.  My mom mom and brother, Ernie were heading back to SD after spending the week with us.  They took the AmTrak back home.  It was a great visit and was pleasantly surprised at how good Tio Ruben looked- he totally recognized me- "Tio, se acuerda de mi?"  "SI de bolada!  Eres Ceci"  it was great!  And Tia Maria- she looked good too. Quick as a whip, as always.  Her and my mom always enjoy reminiscing about the good 'ol times.  It was nice catching up with the cousins as well.  I'm hoping now that Olivia is a little older, we're able to visit more frequently.  My favorite part of our visit was watching my Tio interact with Olivia.  It was so sweet!  He was cooing to her and talking to her in such a gentle voice- and she was just staring at him like she recognized him from "somewhere" but couldn't quite put her finger on it!

Post-Christmas dinner with Melissa- January 31, 2010

Had a great visit with Melissa this evening.   It was a bit bittersweet, but nice.  Melissa has had Maxi's remains with her for several months.  It was great to finally have Maxi back :)  Melissa, you have been a wonderful friend and we are so grateful for everything you've done for us and especially for Maxi.  WE LOVE YOU!

Had a nice evening last night too!  Happy Birthday to our Comadre, Margarita.  And Kudos to her hubby who hosted a great dinner party.  The best part of the evening was that the girls did great with their new sitter.  Olivia had only spent about 30 mins with her the night before, but allowed her to put her to sleep with no problem!  Go OLIVIA!  We pray that you continue to be so easy going!

Welcome to my blog!

So, after 6 years and STILL no baby book or scrapbook, I thought I would at least attempt this new (new to me, that is) blogging phenomena/craze.  Now let's hope I can keep it up- it'd be nice to be able to get a blog book at the end of the year.  Truly, how harmful can one more addiction really be?  First FaceBook and now blogging-  ADM.
At least it's still January :)

Let's start with this crazy week that I'm so ready to have end!  Looking forward to some sun rays this weekend.  Afterall, we do live in So Cal!  I think even Olivia has a slight case of cabin fever- she hasn't been outside since we arrived from San Diego on Monday!  I can't remember the last time we had this much rain, wind, thunder, lightning, and hail.  The good news is that we did get to spend some quality time with my mom.  Danny was out of town all week, so my mom and brother came up and hung out with us girls.  It was a week full of comfort food and am so thrilled that I now have a semi-organized garage- thank you, Ernie!
